Fremont, Calif. -- March 22, 1993 -- Logitech Inc.,
announces FotoMan Plus, a significant upgrade to the popular
FotoMan Digital Camera line. The new camera, scheduled to
ship in late April, will be available from Logitech dealers
and distributors at a suggested retail price of US$799.
Current FotoMan users can purchase software-only or complete
hardware/software upgrades directly from Logitech. In
addition to Logitech's versions for PC and Macintosh
systems, FotoMan products are available for UNIX through a
third party.
FotoMan Plus features a 67-percent increase in resolution,
for sharper detail and crisper images, especially when used
with today's new 600 dpi printers. Battery life has been
increased from 36 to 100 hours, to facilitate use of the
camera "on location." For better portrait pictures, the main
lens has been changed from 55mm to 65mm.
Additional upgrade features include:
Improved self-regulating flash control for proper exposure
from 16 inches to six feet.
Tactile feedback trigger for immediate confirmation that a
picture has been taken.
Faster, more accurate serial communication providing fewer
errors in data transfer and increased download speed under
Microsoft(R) Windows(TM). With FotoMan Plus, an image can be
transferred to the camera in about 12 seconds.
Additional COM port support for broader compatibility.
Support for JPEG compressed format (JFIF), in addition to
current file formats supported (.TIF, .PCX, .BMP,
.EPS/output only) for more efficient file storage and
handling.
Camera-internal software improvements to more accurately
manage gray levels for better image quality.
Easier installation procedures
Improved printing control for higher-quality printed output
on laser printers.
Optional accessories including wide angle, telephoto, and
close-up lenses, Available from third-party supplier.
"The digital photography market is taking off for several
reasons," says Peter Phillips, product marketing manager for
FotoMan Plus. "The number of software applications which
accept images is growing daily; image files are becoming
more manageable; text-plus-image documents are becoming the
'norm;' and now, Logitech, already a market leader in
imaging technology, is bringing high-quality digital
photography within reach of a significant number of personal
computer users.
"We're hearing about new applications for FotoMan all the
time," continues Phillips. "From real estate, insurance,
personnel files, museum archives, and other image database
applications, to transmission of machine repair data from
remote sites, to inter-pound exchange of found pet
information. Users are calling us almost daily with
additional ideas."
Logitech manufactures and markets "Senseware(TM)" --
products designed to give human-like "senses" such as sight,
sound, and touch to the computer, making human-to-computer
communication more intuitive and natural. Retail and OEM
products of Logitech and its affiliates include pointing
devices (such as mice and trackballs), hand-held scanners,
digital cameras, pen digitizers, joysticks, business audio
products, sound boards, and related software applications.
Logitech International, the financial holding company for
the Logitech Group, is traded publicly in Switzerland on the
Zurich and Geneva exchanges. With operational headquarters
in Fremont, Calif., the group maintains manufacturing
facilities in Fremont, California; Hsinchu, Taiwan;
